Sorry if this is a naive question - I'm not very technically adroit. My computer is running Vista 32-bit with 3 Gigs of ram. I downloaded the latest AMD/ATI Catalyst drivers for the tuner card and installed it in an open PCI Express slot, but the system does not detect the card for some reason. Even when I run detect new hardware, nothing is found. The card looks fine and all connections are firm at the expansion slot. The only possible reference I could find in system reports referred to a PCI error: IRQARB: ACPI BIOS does not contain an IRQ for the device in PCI slot 2, function 0. But, it also listed the error with slots 3 and 4, so not too sure it even relates to my problem. Any thoughts on this? Thanks.

Running dual monitors on Dell Vostro 200 slim-tower

I am trying to add dual monitor capability to five Dell Vostro 200s slim-towers in our office. Dell recommended using either the

Radeon HD4550 PCIe 512MB DMS59 dual monitor SFFF-Short + Tall Brackets

or the

Stealth ATI Radeon 9250 128MB DDR PCI Graphics Card.

The 9250 is much less expensive than the 4550 and seeing we are using it in an non-graphic intensive office environment (Word, Excel, etc) I was hoping that the 9250 would suffice. However I saw a blurb on the WEB where someone was upset because the 9250 would only support 1024x768 resolution on the DVI connections. We would like to have at a minimum one port with 1920x1080 resolution for our 23" monitors and one with 1680x 1050 resolution for our 19" monitors.

I haven't been able to find any info on the resolution capabilities of these two cards anywhere so far and ATI phone support is down for a while.

Does anyone know where I can find the info I need to be able to make an informed decision about what is the best choice for us. I spent over half an hour on the phone with DELL support and feel blessed they would talk with me even though our systems are out of warranty.

The DELL links are

I installed a newer Graphics card (Powercolour 4670 1Gb) and after Windows 7 restarted i Installed the Win 7 drivers for it from ATI.

I rebooted the PC, and checked my WEI score (it was 5.8 with the older card), it said i had installed New Hardware and need to refresh, so i did. it gets to a certain point then a message pops up that says. "Windows Assesment Tool has stopped working" and it cannot continue.

I'm not that worried about it, but would like to know the cause of the error.

It crashes at "Direct 3D 9 Batch Assessment" The event log has numerous winsat.exe fails and i have the latest Radeon drivers from ATI AMD installed.

I navigated to: C:\Windows\Performance\WinSAT\DataStore
deleted all *.xml files...
Ran elevated CMD and excuted the following command.

> winsat formal

It got to : Assessing DirectX Batch performance. Then the error: CreateShader failed to produce a valid shader cache.

Is there a way to fix this without a re-install.

I uninstalled the ATI drivers and tried the WDM drivers, but it was the same result.

I dont think its the card at fault as i can can run the WEI in vista (dual booting Vista Ultimate and Windows 7 - both 64bit). but if anyone coukd give me some advice as to how i fix it without a re-install, i'd be greatful.

I have tried connecting my HP DV6 with ATI Radeon HD 4530 graphics card, using the Catalyst control drivers, to my non-HD tv. However, it just shows up as fuzzy lines on the tv. My other computer works just fine on it, so I am assuming that the problem is that the new computer described above is putting out in HD format from the VGA plug. Does anyone know how to change the format in Catalyst control center from HD to digital output? Or does anyone know what else can be done to fix this? Thank you.

I recently bought a ATI Radeon HD 4800 Series Graphics Card. The package says it's R4830. But when I tried to install drivers from the CD and the internet, it kept telling me that there is no driver compatible with the hardware. I restarted my computer and windows seemed to install a driver and it says the graphics card is a x1200 series. I bought this card because the reviews said it was good and fast, but I can't even play my games on my computer anymore. Is the x1200 series and the HD 4800 series different? Was the wrong graphics card packaged in the HD 4800 series box? Please help.

I'd like suggestions for a PCI-E video card to optimize the DELL Precision 470 PCI-E v1.1 motherboard slot.

The main PCI-E slot is x16 and as I understand it, does not know how to cope with PCI-E v2.0 video cards.

There is a 2nd PCI-E slot, however it is only x4, so as I understand it, Crossfire and similar technologies are out of the question.

I would like to stick with the Precision 470, as I am still paying off a 60" Sony TV.

Suggestions gratefully appreciated.

First I apologise if this is in the wrong place, but don't know where else to ask.

I'm posting from Canada. Hi!

As something has caused Windows Media Center to stop seeing TV Channels in Vista and now in Windows 7 RC I installed Catalyst Media Center from my old (2006) CD in XP SP2 compatability mode.

It works great, except while scanning for channels it sees all of them, but once finished channels 23 to 47 inclusive are all missing. I saw them come up during the scanning process, so why are they missing?

Also I see no option to download the EPG from Rogers, my cable provider.

I do have a high definition PVR digital box but am feeding the signal from the cable directly through a splitter. I should add that WMC did see all available channels (2 through 65) before.

I should add that I can tune to these channels using the numeric keys, however, although the video signal is fine, the sound breaks up every second or so, not sure why.

Hi, my PSU is a "Win Power" 450W (watt) MODEL: ATX-450. HD4870 says "500 watt or greater power supply". But i have read online people asking stuff like "will HD4870 be ok with a 450w thermaltake PSU? (for example, but i know thermaltake is a lot better than some cheapy win power ;P) and people said it was fine. But mine won't even start, or atleast i think. when i switch it on, (btw its a brand new card) i'm promted that one of the power connectors are not in. But they're both in, and on each one there is a spare molex (hope this is right). is it promting me because my PSU is simply not enough? or are my power cables hooked up wrong? but im quite sure they're not... i don't see how. Thanks i hope i can get a fast responde because i'm probs gonna buy a new PSU tomorrow.

I was able to install the 4800 series drivers through windows update, but not the catalyst control centre. I have tried installing the catalyst on it's own, and get the same error message, I try installing the drivers on their own, same error message.

I have downloaded the files several times, in case there was a problem, same error message. I unistalled the drivers and card, and re-installed, same error message.
