I am running Stream 1.4 on a openSuSE 11.1 system with 2.6.27.x kernel for some time.

In an attempt to test a newer kernel for hardware updates I have compiled 2.6.31.4 and 2.6.32-rc4 kernels.  After a successful boot I have tried executing the stream app I am using and it Seg Faults on me.

I have also tested on openSuSE 11.2 kernel 2.6.31.3-5 and also receive the Seg Falut.

Are there kernel functions being missed during the compile to allow Stream 1.4 to operate correctly?

Thanks!

I could not run CAL samples on Ubuntu 9.10 which also uses 2.6.31 kernel but samples worked fine on Ubuntu 9.04 (with an older kernel) with the same Catalyst version.

When testing new kernels, did you test them on the openSUSE 11.1 system? No new libraries, etc?

On 11.1 with the new kernels the fglrx modules where created against that kernel but no other changes in openSuSE 11.1.

There must be some change in the kernel that causes CAL to not be called properly.

I found that even the PCItest tool from AMD fails on the new kernels.

I'm running Ubuntu 9.10 with a 4870x2 and a 5770 no problems.  I'm using the beta opencl catalyst.

Is that a beta catalyst for 9.11 or the Ubuntu beta 9.10 catalyst (patching 9.8)?

Would you provide a link to the package that I may try an install on openSuSE 11.2.

Thanks!

EDIT: As I read more carefully that you are using OpenCL v2 beta stream SDK instead of beta of OpenCAL .  My issue with that at this point is that I have a few HD3870s that are not supported with that SDK.

How do four 3870s compare to one 5870?  Maybe time to sell your 3870s on ebay.  If only I could find a 5870 ...

According to my system 4 x 3870 is just under have the computation of the 5870.  Upgrades are planned but also as you pointed out availibility is not great right now.  And the price where I have found one this week was $70 more than what I paid.
