Looks like the update considers user32.dll a virus and delets it. Big woops...

ever since intel bought some stakes in grisoft I switched to Kaspersky, never looked back since

Just checked on my second computer where I run AVG8 and it was ok. Wonder if it matters if it's SP2 or SP3, I haven't installed SP3 on that one. I more or less only use it as a simple webserver and for Skype so I don't surf or download anything with it.. so AVG is enough.

It could matter, since the .dll could be different in SP2/3.

It seems to affect XP SP3 only. If you read on the linked page it says that no vista has been affected.

I second that! Kaspersky is the S**T! Got mine for free, they were handing them all out for free to the employees at my store.

Ok...I digged some more. Vista is fine as the .dll is totally different. XP SP3 is affected, but not 100% of the versions.
Anyway...this should of been fixed by now and updating should be safe to do.

I just love Avast 4.8 my self. AVG has been good in the past, but this is not the first time an update broke it lol. One of the big reasons I left it behind was an update broke it. They almost always fix it in a few days but its still annoying.

I'm not using antiviruses any more, but when I was using them I was not letting the auto-update enabled. Instead, I was manually updating at one or two weeks difference. Bad thing now it that most AV don't let you disable auto-update or choose the interval or let you do it manually.
