Its the same CPU as the 955 BE and would be willing to bet its going to hit from 3.5 Ghz to 4.4 Ghz but is 100% based on IF and this is a big IF, you get a good one.

The 965's are probably slightly more highly binned.

one would think.

But there are a few decent 955,s out there as well.

This is where people get the 4 Ghz 955's from.

Ompa-lompas are orange, if I remember correctly. I don't know of any pudding that's orange. However, Ompa-lompas have good memories. If they've seen the proof they'll remember it, and I've never seen an ompa-lompa die, so chances are most of them have seen quite a lot. We find out what the proof is by nabbing one and dunking its heads in a giant vat of chocolate over and over again until they talk.

I've never seen that happen either and I doubt I'm in the minority there, so that may be why many people who do this sort of thing never seem to learn. Overclocking and early-adopter-ing both cause problems on their own. Combining the two is just asking for trouble, but it happens all the time...

bud my 940 BE @ 3.7 Ghz dont use 125 watt.

Its a TDP of 125 watt MAX but dont think for a minute it uses 125 watt out of the box.

125 watt TDP max on overclock lol.

Well then how much power does it dissipate? That's a much more interesting question, and much harder to answer as well. AMDs TDP is how much heat the chip would produce if every single transistor was switching all at the same time. That's not ever going to happen no matter if you overclock the chip or not. You might get close if you overclock it a lot, and the chip was on the high end of the "thermal envelope" to begin with, but again... that's not an easy thing to figure out with any kind of certainty.

It's funny how everyone is questioning WHY he ordered one.

Because it's king of the AMD hill right now. What other reason would he need?

I've always preferred being .001 inches away from being king of the hill while saving $150 or so. Maybe that's just me, but I kind of doubt it.

Ah I see its bragging rights

I just couldn't see why seeing as he already had a 955 and had only had it for a week or so. What happens if they suddenly bring out another king of the hill, could get expensive....

If rumours from January of this year are right, we may very well see a 975 and a 985. So far they're 50% right on that rumour. Another bin and stepping and you never know. They already have a 2.6GHz six-core now on the Opteron side of things at a decent TDP level. Seems like they have their 45nm process shining like they did back on 90nm. Next stop is 32nm!

Why did the overclocker have an 955 x 4 upside down box shown instead of an 965 one?

And another thing....I don't know what what he did necessarily means "on air". Yes he has a normal heat sink, but he also has the thing outside of the case. I don't know if you're planning to run yours outside a case 24/7 but...eh. And what heat sink is that? An XP90? Maybe you could get a better one and get more speed out of it.

EDIT: And I'm glad you guys think this will be fun. I found a wasted Asus P4P800 and I'm getting a 3GHz Northwood THAT will be fun muahahahahaha
