I just got a new cooling unit, a CoolerMaster Hyper 212 Evo for my X3 720 and am trying to overclock it. I did try unlocking the 4th core but all I got was a black screen upon restart.

(btw I am not very experienced at overclocking)

So far I have set the CPU Vcore to +.05 and it's now stable at 3.4ghz (multiplier at 17). It was not stable at 3.4ghz without upping the voltage. CPU-Z shows the CPU voltage to be at 1.408v so I don't really understand how the + CPU Vcore works...Stock voltage is 1.3 so I thought +.05 would make it 1.305

I tried setting it to +.10 and going to 3.5ghz but it BSOD'd running Prime95

How high is it safe to go with the voltage? Temps are still fine, never going over 37-38C at 100% load.

Also I've noticed Cool N' Quiet doesn't seem to work once I overclock...it's still checked as enabled in my BIOS but it just stays at 3.4ghz all the time.

disable cool and queit in the bios as for v core id say no higher than 1.485v as this will throw those temps throught the roof and be very unstable ad pretty much ruin your cpu if the cooling is inadequeit .im shore if ya flick through theres bound to be a thread here were some one with a similar cpu would have uploaded there settings

My motherboard sets stock Vcore to 1.375 for some reason. I've had my 720 up to 1.425 with 4 cores unlocked. The best I could muster with that was 3.7Ghz. You'll see temps start to skyrocket over 1.425, t maybe a bit more. I limited mine to 1.425 for 24/7 clocks. Cool n Quiet will work if you just overclock via multiplier. You'll have to select a "Balanced" or "Power Saver" power scheme from the control panel in order to get it to work.
