Not true with newer SSD's that have built in garbage collection.

Not sure what to tell you. Not sure if those SSD's are good in a RAID 1 array or not, never seen anyone try it. Things that you could look for are:
Do you have the current firmware installed on your SSD's
Do you have the most recent BIOS version installed for your motherboard
Do you have the latest RAID drivers installed
