Not impressed, particularly since they need that type of cooler for a whole 20MHz increase:

look at this all that they always bragged about like dual slot cooling and pci-e AGP bribge they found themself doing it as well

how is this gonna compare to the X800 now will it have SM3.0 and what will the speed increase be?

Actually its a nice looking card. I would not buy it for 549 but people will if it delivers the gains that ATI claims. As far as duel slot cooling thats just becoming the norm. But of course they have to release somthing and this is what we get.
ATI claims that X850 XT Platinum edition will end up twenty per cent faster than Geforce 6800 Ultra in 3Dmark05, almost forty per cent faster in Far Cry and around 55 per cent faster in Unreal Tournament 2004. Those numbers come from ATI.

IF those numbers are even close to accurate than the card might actually be worth buying. However, I don't see the improvement being anywhere near that huge. 20mhz on the core will not do that.

The only good thing I see on that card is that now you might be able to overclock a little further with the dual slot cooling. However, I doubt that would even happen as ATI is pushing this architecture to it's limits already.

I'm waiting for the next generation of cards before I look at ATI again.

The 6800 has plenty of headroom since the fastest ultra is only clocked at 400 MHZ so expect an answer but I think Nvidia will be smart and let ATI launch its card first then pull out a Trump card.

I think the cooler looks a bit more like the 5950 ultra. I think the x850 pro should be 16pipe with like 450/500, and a smaller cooler. Then the normal should be 12 pipe at 480/520

I agree, they should have made the pro same pipes just slower clock. So we can overclock it

i know that, but why would the 12 pipeline one be higher clock speed? if they have the same board just different pipelines, why wouldnt u just add the pipelines and keep the clock speeds higher

I'm not really impressed by the uppage, either. Not a worthy upgrade, imo.

Yeah its not that great. I guess the only people who should get it are the people who still haven't upgraded yet and want PCI-E and don't have a 9800 Pro/XT cuz those guys should wait.
