I surely wouldn't buy a FX5800 ultra. Do you know how much noise such a card makes? Almost similar to a plane flying by

LOL i dont think a FX5800 Ultra could be much louder than the Volcano 11+ so chances are volume of sound wont be a problem, and no the 2600 i run now is standard T-Bred will get the 2800 Barton at xmas time.
Still i will shop around for a diff card, the only reason i wanted a MSI FX is because the secondary chipsets match the mainboard. AND because i have already killed 2 x Leadtech TI4200 vid cards

I don't see what advantage that should have?
I you mean the color: most Ati based cards are red too. Apart from that, an Ati Radeon 9700pro card is faster than the FX5800 ultra, and probably much cheaper too

I dont care about colour (Alothough it all matches at the moment), but i do care about chipset matching and secondary chipset matching, as it can point to performance improvement and the best compatibility, and where i live ATI Radeon 9700 Pro is $729 but in comparision the FX5800 Ultra is around $550, dunno will look around.

Are that us dollars?! Over here in the Netherlands a Radeon 9700 pro only costs $330, while a MSI FX5800 ultra costs $450(most stores don't sell em anymore).

And believe me, you surely won't have any performance benefits because of a matching chipset manufacturer

Well.. I would recommend the Radeon nowadays... Seems to be the preference and less controversies... I'm planning on getting a Radeon something... Possible a refurb 9800 on www.newegg.com since I'm only a student with limited cash..

A refurbished 9800? Those cards are brandnew!
I think you'll have to wait at least a year to find a refurbished one

I see. A Radeon 9800 is about the fastest card available, strange that someone refurbished it already...
Too bad that they don't sell refurbished processors, i'm still looking for a cheap AMD64 (j/k)

Isn't it just your local hardware retailer that uses such high prices?
Otherwise, it would be attractive to order a card in the US and pay the shipping costs.
729 NZD are about, ehm, 450 USD? Way too expensive as far as i'm concerned...

With the exchange rate and the shipping it would be roughly the same as we have pay 1 NZ dollar and get 59 cents US so its nearly twice our money to pay your prices and then shipping, not only that but if its faulty then i would have to ship it back and wait for a return card, so all in all i guess im better off just paying the rip off prices we have to pay in NZ

If its really the retailers who are raping the consumer down in NZ, youve got a big opportunity for a NZ based newegg.com type of deal.

I think people on a budget are better off getting a Ti4200, or better yet trying their luck with softmodding a Radeon 9500.. a refurb 9800 Pro would still be awfully pricey for what you get.

I looked for a GF4 ti 4200 8x too, but this card doesnt support dx9, only dx8.

Not good for new games

So i set for a radeon 9600Pro, very descent card imo, and for a rather good price.

Tomshardware benchmarks on 3DMark2003:

Game2

Game4

What i find typical though, but thats cause im a noob maybe , is that the Ti4200 8x scores good in , the old standard, 3D Mark 2001:

Prolly the Dx8 thingie? So playing older games ud better stick with the Ti, but for a 30/40 Euros more, u have the Radeon 9600Pro.
