First off MUST be amd, im loving it.
Secondly, must be highly overclockable
Third, MUST have an agp slot

I really would like an FX chip but it really doesn't look like thats gonna happen, I also would like at least a 17 inch flat panel LCD screen (Good/great quality)

Heres what I have so far
1. A more than satisfing Nvidia 6800gt
2. Almost equally inspiring Wireless mouse

This is what i want
1. A More than decent 64 bit amd processor
2. At least 1 GB of memory
3. 500+ watt PSU
4. AT LEAST 80GB hard drive anything over 7200rpm is preferable
5. DVD/CDRW burner
6. 17 inch or bigger LCD screen no less than 450:1 contrast
7. Keyboard (already have the mouse)

I would like to get all quality things because my budget is small and I do not want to buy anything over again, please help this avid gamer!

If you ask me, you can keep everything from your current rig except the CPU/mobo, then go all out on an FX55 and ABIT AV8' ">http://www.newegg.com/app/view...tion=13-127-181&depa=0

Well my problem is im selling my rig except for the mouse and Video card.

I can settle for something less than a FX chip simply cause they are 800 bucks and thats one big chunk out of my budget.

I could possibly cut the PSU too I would just need to find a replacement.

I bought my rig with $1300 and look what I got:

AMD 3500
2GB of Corsair XMS 3200
ATI x800 Pro
Asus A8v Mobo

Trust me it can be done! I would do some ebaying if you have the time, you may save around $300 on the whole computer while not sacrificing quality.

Well, you have the graphics card, a very good one i might add, so that leaves a lot of cash left over. you could get the MSI nforce3 250GB board, or wait like a month and get a new nforce4, although im not sure those are shipping with AGP, so you might just stick with a nforce 3. If you want a harddrive over 7200 rpm I would get a WD 74GB raptor for OS/games/intensive apps, and then a 120GB 7200 RPM storage drive. you only need 1GB of ram, you could get some corsair XMS low latency ram. ummm, and yeah, you should go with a CRT i think, unless you just have to have the extra space, because they have better IQ for the price. I would go with the AMD64 3500+ processor. thats what I have and it easily OC'd to 3800+ speeds. It would be an FX-53 if it had unlocked multipliers and 512kb more of L2 cache. and its like half the price. DVD burners are falling in price pretty rapidly too. I would get a lite on, just because i like them. And an antec true 550 powersupply. i guess you need a case too... anyone will do really, but the thermaltake tsunamis and the coolermaster wave master cases are very nice, and fairly affordable.

Don't the speeds of a hard disk run on the lowest speed disk. What I mean is, if i get a 10k rpm hd and a 7200 rpm hd wont the pc force the 10k drive at the 7200 speeds? Or is that just when run on IDE, because i do have 2 120gb hd's now but one is 5400 and the other 7200

Does the monitor have to be an LCD? Not that LCDs are bad, but if you can handle the extra bulk of a CRT you can get a better picture for less. Last question: By DVD/CD burner, do you mean a DVD burner and CD burner or a DVD-ROM drive and a CD burner? Lastly, is it possible to keep the PSU from your old rig?

I ask all of this because it's tricky to fit those requirements into your budget. Possible, sure, but tricky, and every dollar you save counts.

Id recommend:

To save money go s754:
Athlon 64 3400+
MSI K8N Neo Platinum

Or go s939 for a little more power and a better looking upgrade path:
Athlon 64 3500+
MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum

You dont really NEED a PSU over 400W-ish, so you can save money there. Youve already got an awsome video card, so thats good.

If you want to do some serious OC'ing, I there is no better RAM on the market for Athlon 64 than OCZ PC-3700 EB Platinum. Period. But its expensive. And also, the FX chips are the best OCers because their multipliers are unlocked, but then again those are expensive, and if you are serious about OCing, youll need something like a water-cooling setup, and again, thats pretty expensive...but you alse need a case, keyboard, and looking at LCDs... hate to break this to you, but you cant do it with $1200...youll either have to bring your expectations down a bit, or earn some more cash to do this with.

LCDs arent really that expensive, Ive got the Solarism LM1730, its a 17" 450:1, 16ms response, and its for around $380 over at zipzoomfly. (kicks mojor [content edited] btw) BenQ has a nice 19" 450:1, 16ms response for around $450 over at newegg.

you wont need 2gb, but in about 12 months you might.

lol I have 1 GB and with everything my poor little processor will run at once I barely use half. (I tested it once, something like 8 games, 20 apps all open at once. Then I tried to alt-tab from battlefield to GTA3 and my comp froze...

//edit::: actually I had 2GB, (4x512mb). Then when my biostar board died I got an MSI one and it only had 3 slots. Then I found out about dual channel, so now I only run 1gb instead of 1.5gb.

[content edited] you guys are good at breaking a bortha down...

Well Ive decided performance is more important than appereance, I can get a nice case with a PSU in it and just swap em.

I don't want a 754 cause I do like the upgradiblity factor.
Ive been pricing 21 inch CRT monitors and Ive considered it, more than likely i will buy one of them without question if I could get a FX-xx processor I really would like the unlocked multipliers...

350 memory
150 mobo
120 case
300 monitor
20 Keyboard
10 Floppy Drive
Then HD's

Total 950
Which leaves me with 350 for a processor

No matter which way i squeeze it or twist it It doesn't seem I can get a fx-xx pros in there, On a realistic not how much do u think i would need to stick a Fx-53 in there and have a great start speaking of with at least a Good mobo, processor, monitor, and case?

I have the video card
I could salavage a 120gb 7200 rpm HD

Why are you so set on an FX-53? You know all of that OC ability wont do you much good when you dont have proper cooling, and water-cooling is the best way to do it. That will run you around $300 for a quality custom built setup. I say go with a 3500+. Then youll have your setup, and when you have some more money later on down the road, sell your 3500+ and get an FX-55.

These threads drive me mad, I am sure I answered a question like this just the other day. Why don’t you research first and when you have a specific query by all means ask.

Can anyone tell me the fundemental difference between the 939 and 940 pins CPU's?

How will the difference relate to performance, and upgradability?

There's no upgradability unless you want an Opteron processor. And you have to use registered memory, IIRC.

And hey, isn't the 3700+ socket 754 instead of 939?
