I think I'm going to gut this NForce2 soon as I can get my hands on a Nforce3 250. I'm going to wait till I see what the NV40 and next gen ATI cards are doing before I upgrade in that area.

The nForce3 250 family of chipsets support AMD 64-bit Socket 940 and Socket 754 processors and is ready to power both high-end AMD Opteron and AMD Athlon 64 FX microprocessors as well as performance-mainstream AMD Athlon 64 chips.
An advanced version of the nForce3 250 series – the nForce3 250Gb – adds Gigabit Ethernet support and promises to be the world’s first core-logic to integrate GbE inside the chip

QUOTE (voodoo3300 @ Dec 5 2003, 09:31 AM) I would go for the nVidia mainly because they seem to be able to write drivers that work. The amount of ATI cards i have seen that wont start working properly until months after release because of crap drivers is astounding. So nvidia still have their problems, but they are nevertheless more reliable!

Jake
thats right, i cant get my tv and games to work right (i have 9800 pro allinwonder)... so i have to live with the 3.8 drivers... bad bad very bad 3dmark scores with it =(

I see

Actually ATI is recently corrected their flukes and now they are stable as much as Nvidia.

I purchased ATi 9800 and in a week or two i'll see if i like it or not.
I the worst scenario, i spent almost 300$ and i'll have to live with that.

ATI and Nvidia today compiting, and what i'v seen before( ATI crappy scores) i didnt encoutered much now.

We'll se...

LOL no the 3400+ woun't be as expensive as that. Remember AMD has always been known for quality at a great price so $2000 wouldn't be good for them since people would go "hmmm $2000 for an A64 or $1000 for a P4EE hmmm i'll get the P4EE".

The NForce 3 will not have some spec. as the Nforce2.
Make sure you know what you loose with the Nforce3.
Read it in MaxPC last issue.

if it were me i would get the ATI (Because my aunt works at ATI and she gets a discount on them) lol
there is no big difference betweek the 2 chip anyway

and last time i heard the 9800 was compared to the 5900

so i guess the 9800 would be a little better than the 5700
(I THINK doesnt mean im correct tho )

9800 is one of the best on the market, I would pick that over any Nvidia card....personally.

Even though I love NVIDIA to death and I own some stock, I'd probably go with a 9800 XT simply because it's the best overall. NVIDIA tends to win in stock situations, but ATI tends to wins with AA/AF turned on and that's what I'd be using if I'm going to spend $500 on a card.
