i was looking for a UPS, and it seems you cant get but maybe 500w for $75.
i have a 480w PSU and i also want to run a monitor, projector, and who knows what else out of it.
will i really need something that is the combined power ratings of all the devices? 1000w sounds what like i want, but you cant really just go buy that...

i dont care how long it lasts, i just want it for the clean power reason.

You can go for APC 900 VA, it should be enough. The wattage of your PSU has nothing to do with the UPS's wattage as the PSU hardly ever draws the complete rated power.

except that one is really expensive

i dont want to risk it, if that is the way it works, ill only be happy with MAX ratings, as teh wattage rating on the UPS is also ITS max.

400W but should be enough for a 480W psu since max power for it is usually under 70% so thats around 340W.

Well its possible. I had a Conext 900 CNB900' ">http://www.compusa.com/product..._code=282177&pfp=srch1 I got it for $30 or 40 after rebate last thanksgiving. Its a great product, it held up my Asus A8V, A64 3200 and Tagan, with 19" monitor and 17"LCD and another thing. But I had problems with it when I bought my new Gigabyte mobo, read my UPS trouble thread for more info, I am now on K8NS Ultra 939, and the 900 wont even hold it up during a minute power loss. But APC, the owner, maker, etc of Conext is moving me up to the 950 Link' ">http://www.compusa.com/product...code=319642&pfp=SEARCH which I admit I dont have yet, but I cant wait till give it a try.

Good luck.

Nice UPS, sad thing is that it is $65 Shipping.

Smart UPS are by far the best option, switching times for them are 4ms or less.

i dont care how long it lasts after an outage, im getting it solely for the filtering capabilities

which kind of makes me think i should just get a power filter
but they are really expensive too

by the way its already more expensive on ebay, 4 days left means nothing, it will be well over 100 by the time it ends

You'll be hard pressed to find one that filters power and handles 1000watts for $80. It will be heavy so over $30 or more for shipping is not out of line. As for ebay, bid what you can and you might get lucky. But it's a bit of buyer beware as well when you go that route. The only other thing I can think of look for businesses closing up, hospitals upgrading letting old stuff go for next to nothing, look at other sources like cragslist.org

good luck

well maybe i should get one for just the comp tower/maybe monitor, that would be like 75, and then a small one, like 300watt or just barely more than the projo is for cheap.
