Basically what you will be looking for is a dual socket 939 board, that is if you are talking about the FX53 and above.
Dual 940 if you are talking FX51
Anyways what fx series are you talking about.

Thus you will need to find a dual socket 939 board, lets see those processor duel with each other. Silk<---
back to topic, yeah you need a 939 board, with 2 socket 939s, i have yet to see one, you will most likely need a server board.

You can only run the Opterons in dual or higher configurations.

I believe you are right on carl, stupid bv.
Yeah I have not seen 2 fxs or 64s run together, it would take a new chipset to utilize that I believe.

There are no dual core AMD FX CPUs, and there won't be for a long time.
Socket 940 AMD FX CPUs can not run in dual CPU configuration.
What your looking for is either socket 939 AMD X2 Dual core CPUs, from AMD X2 4200+ - AMD X2 4800+.
Or socket 940 dual Opterons, 2 seperate CPUs and sockets on 1 motherboard.

Bingo. There won't be any Dual Socket 939 Motherboard because no Socket 754 or Socket 939 Processor got at least one Coherent Hyper Transport Link to make communication with any other Processor in the same system (Though I saw a photo of an old prototype of a Socket 754 Motherboard with two Sockets, it was from the time of when the Clawhammers would be used too for entry level Workstations and Sledgehammers only for servers. The 16 Bit Uncoherent Hyper Transport Link would be divided in two 8 Bit Hyper Transport Links (One Coherent and the other one Uncoherent)). Socket 940 Athlons 64 FX are like Opterons 1xx (They only got an Uncoherent Hyper Transport Link). For Dual Processor systems or more, you need Opterons 2xx or 8xx, and they only are for Socket 940.

yes, you can either run ONE FX on a dual processor board or two opterons i suggest just getting a dual core

are you running a server? i cant think of another reason you would need so much power. if gaming is what you like its overkill.
