not to say nothing bad, but whats the point of this thread?

and u should have added something to make it a lil better, by asking what your computer is and what its used for, i mean unless u need power i bet most of them wont be the best out there by a long shot

Not really, I was jsut curious what we used daily at work.

Logan - Only 250? I wish I only monitored/ran 250 email accounts, I am one of 2 people in all of Timken Roller Bearing, that do email/active directory/exchange.

There si about 45,000 people.

Do you just setup the accounts, monitor them, do backups? Do you use ITSM? IBM Tivoli Storage Manager or ITIM? IBM Identity Manager?

You should look into those if not, ITIM is for mostly password reset, the user can reset their own passwords at time's if they know their main ITIM password, pretty neat software and its all web-based, saves me a lot of time.

Oh, we've got thousands of rock miners, but only ~250 mailboxes. It's kinda nice being "the guy". We're a department of 5 but after the two managers (who both do their own hands-on, which is nice) I'm the head "hands-on" guy.

You're massively overworked. That's disgusting. I really hope you guys have an extensively outsourced consulting company to help manage disaster recovery, etc.

I do it all... we use Veritas / Symantec Backup Exec 9.1/10/10d for everything with LTO2 tape drives or LTO1 auto-loader libraries, depending on the server.

As for web-based stuff... nah. We're not that big. They call me if they cack their password, I reset it. That's 20 seconds into a RDP session to a DC. Tops.

It's sweet... I have about 15-18 servers (can never remember how many, I need to redo my network diagram! and about 125 or so workstations. I've completely redesigned, retooled and reinforced the whole network from our Internet endpoint to each user's PC. Everything is finally less than 2 years old on the server end. I can sleep at night now! /laugh.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='laugh.gif' />

Nah, I'm not massively overworked, they pay good, and compensate me for it. As for DR, we have our own part of Timken that only deals with DR.

I don't deal really with mainframes, althought I can. I was down there yesterday playing with some tape vaults, we ahve StorageTek vaults and they are amazing, you can walk around in it.

We just got 2 of these bad boys in - IBM Z900 mainframes....awesome
http://www-03.ibm.com/servers/eserver/zseries/z900/

I don't deal with the network really, alot of software to be honest. VM/CICS/Applix/Active Directory/Exchange/ATXPress and mostly deal with the network id's and email machines.

Sometimes they throw me on printers, that sucks.

I've got two HP's. Each is a 3.2 Prescott. They do put out some serious heat. Each one has a XFX 6600 GT. Little overkill but when we started buying them, they were the cheapest dual DVI PCI-express cards you could find. Pretty much everyone here has at least two 19" LCD's. We don't skimp on equipment here.

Do you wish me a good morning, or mean that it is a good morning whether I want it or not; or that you feel good this morning; or that it is a morning to be good on?

i thought we were posting only work PCs? Rico and Yetieater, are those PCs at work? because they're listed in your sigs. and you both talk about upgrading RAM to it like its your personal system.

i guess if you work at home, it qualifies, but we meant what systems do you work at OUTSIDE of the home. /wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif' />
