QUOTECurrently, the standard clock settings for the Radeon X1800 XT are 625MHz for core and 750MHz (1500MHz data rate) for memory. Because ATI is experiencing good yields on the Radeon X1800 XT core, it is allowing boards to be overclocked to 700MHz core and 800MHz memory (1600MHz data rate). In the document, ATI also indicates that standard clock settings are often set at conservative speeds to produce the highest output yield possible.

This means partners could release cards clocked higher than that joke of an overclock Asus has with its "X1800XT TOP". Reason that ATI is sponsoring partners to do this, and not release an X1800XT PE themselves is because they are preparing for this..

You know, these cards look thrilling. I am really starting to get pissed off with it all though. Things are moving TOO fast, the way they are pumping out new products every few months, it's crazy! Who the heck can afford these cards? The prices are quite disgusting really.

Yeah. The cards are coming out fast. I hope the X1800XT drops in price, and the R580 gets released at the same price point the X1800XT is at now. I really hope it doesnt reach that moronic price the 7800GTX 512 is at. Of course, from what it sounds like, the R580 will mop the floor with the 7800GTX 512...so they may charge a high price for it. /sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif' />

They will! Honestly... the BFG 7800GTX 512 is £528 in the UK. $909, in other words. No one in their right mind would buy one. You'd have to be a videogaming moron who really doesn't understand the value of money if you did.

obviously, there are ppl who get those. and pay that much for them. let them be. myself, i'm always a generation behind, cause it's much cheaper to have/upgrade the system, while most of the time, a generation behind doesn't even sweat at current tech. my videocard is TWO gens behind, and it still performs amazingly well with todays games/appz/etc!
therefore, no reason to upgrade, let alone spending $1000 on the video department.
ah well, it's amusing to see tech run...

Hey, think of it this way--they pump out newer cards, making the last-gen cards really inexpensive. So, we can still get uber graphics performance from cards like the X6/7/8/850 series for a much smaller price because now the new ones have been released.

EDIT: As LPL said over in another thread...

And so at last the beast fell and the unbelievers rejoiced. But all was not lost, for from the ash rose a great bird. The bird gazed down upon the unbelievers and cast fire and thunder upon them. For the beast had been reborn with its strength renewed, and the followers of Mammon cowered in horror.

Both what you said and that quote is so true. Myself I got a good deal on my card, and eventhough it may bet last gen, its more than fine for me and still runs everything I want at high quality and the resolution I want. So all this means is more cards, for cheaper.

Its alot nicer now too with SLI and Crossfire technologies because instead of getting 1 ridiculously priced card you can run 2 mid range cards, save $500, and still get high end performance.

There's a few very good points being made here, but your version of "midrange" is really still quite high-end in the UK. It's not really the last generation cards I have a problem with, although they're still not cheap, but the new cards with starting prices of ~ £500. I'm sorry to be a party pooper but that's just plain ridiculous!
