Hi, I have two questions about the xp-120.
mobo: Asus A8V Deluxe cpu: FX-53 939 fan: Vantec Stealth 120mm fan grease: Arctic Silver 5 @ default 2.4ghz , 1.5v -latest via, latest bios, latest everything, inside of computer case seems average, could be better organized but seems alright.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. My cpu idle is at 50c, that seems too high. The mobo idle temp is 32c which seems good. What to do about that high cpu idle?
2. For about 10 hours or so (less than a day) I was doing something wrong, I had plugged my vantec 120mm fan into the 3-pin cpu fan header on the mobo. I wasn't using the 3 to 4pin adapter.
I remember at startup for one time only it said cpu fan not found or something, and in the bios, under hardware monitor, it was reporting the rpm under the chassis fan header, which of course is wrong, bececause I plugged it into the cpu fan header way at the top, and not the chassis fan header way below.
Now I use the 3-4pin adapter.
Do you think my cpu fan header is damaged? It seems to be working ok and the idle temp was around 50c the same now when using the 3 to 4pin adapter. I just hope no damage was done to it or anything else. Please clam me about this.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Heres how I applied the grease:
I just applied 3/4 bb size or 1 1/2 grain rice size , to the center of the cpu, put the cpu in the mobo, applied the heatsink , rotated to the left n right just 1 degree or so. thats it , just like the instructions recommended, everything was clean, no mess.

how long ago did you apply the grease?
The reason I ask is because it takes at least 200 hours for the AS5 to actually settle.
I doubt your fan head is damaged, but you cna try using different connectors. Another thing you may wish to check is the airflow in your case, and you might want to reapply the As5, meaning cleaning it all off and reapplying.

I am not sure how hot an fx 53 is supposed to run but I would think around 40*C maybe. I dont know.
I would way another weak and see.

I am too running an xp - 120. The xp-120 book recommends applying to both the cpu and heat sink. The artic sitver web site recommentd at5 shoud be applyed to only 1 side / ie the cpu or heatsink. Keep in mind i have a amd 3500 winni core and i have tried both recommendations to see what worked the best... 1 layer worked slightly better for me but temps were very similar. I get about 30 - 35 idle and 38 load on in me lounge room. Like 20 - 26 deg C in here. I found the temps didnt decrease over time when the at5 settled in. Or maby like 1 deg C. I think try the 1 layer m8. I applyed mine on the heatsink and alls well
