Interesting article indeed. More interesting is that the main speaker is AMDs CEO.


A $100 laptop will be amazing. Heck we already have $500 laptops at walmart. But I think this $100 laptop wont be available till at least 2009 or 2010.


Heck I am looking at a laptop for college right now. The laptops themselves start out cheap, but I always want the extra battery, better screen and a 3 year accdiental dropage warranty. So I start out at $1250 plus tax then I jump up to $2100 with all the extra junk.


So let me kind of think what this 100 laptop will have. A cheap 10-14 in screen. Proably a 2ghz or less processor. Integrated video and maybe linux on a 5GB hd.

the $100 laptop isn't out of the realm of possibility. Imagine the sci-fi movies you've seen where students have a tablet they do their work on. The $100 laptop could be a precursor to something like that.

I purchased a rather nice compaq laptop back in late july, 3000XP, 15.4inch widescreen, decent battery, all for about 800bucks. had some nice rebates, so if your planning on buying a cheap laptop for college, wait till late july, early august.
