remember to have a 8mb buffer is fairly important with a hard drive.

Actually the price to gigabyte ration is cheaper on the Hitachi, and I can guarantee their effectiveness.

But IOA, the mods gave us the EDIT button for a reason.

This is the hard drive that I replaced in my laptop. The big selling point for me was the 16mb buffer. And boy it's fast!

what size are you looking for???
20/40/60/80... more?

I would ignore everything that has below 8MB cache and below 5400rpm. I myself would only go with a 7200rpm-hassle free.

Here are some to consider:

No matter what you go with I do recommend going with a 5400 for several reasons. First the 4200 is a bit slow and you may not be happy with it. Second the 7200 will be a bit of a drain on your battery unless you don't really use it on battery. I just feel that these ones are good middle of the road drives. You may get them for cheaper somewhere else, but these would be useful ones to at least use as a guideline.

I also have a laptop and am going to upgrade to something bigger than the paltry little 12 gig 4200 rpm drive I have. As always, keep an eye on e-bay for a good deal if you're in to that sort of thing.
