Do you need to manually set your monitor to display all of the resolutions correctly on the screen?

I have my desktop set to 1280x1024 and I set my monitor so it fit correctly but with all of the other resolutions, including windows loading screens apear off center and to small.

If I use the ATI controll panel, switch through the various resolutions and set my monitor to them will all of the screens apear correctly?

EDIT:

Yea, I am picky about these sort of things...
