How do y'all feel about the LGA design? I personally don't really care, but I'd like to hear some of y'alls opinions on this

I am not crazy about it . I also think AMD is putting out way to many differant socket types again this starting to make me wounder what is next . as the price goes up I keep thinking of Intel and there price as it is cheaper and faster . the 5200+ is over 400 bucks ! not to mention the FX62 and other's coming out like the FX 70 -74's this is just getting too ridiculous who do they think we are ? are they forgetting how many of us work for a living ? (Intel seems to think different all but the new 1700.00 dollar CPU is in the range of most budgets) . Just a thought .

Unless you have 3 grand to just toss around I would say yes leave this to the server market .

These are the FIRST K8L's. The later ones that will probably come out mid 2007 will probably be desktop K8L's.

Yeah but don't count on them being cheep eather . Intel still has the edge over AMD in price and performance .

Of course, they won't be cheaper. Intel will have something new by then and AMD will have to perform better and possibly price lower to compete. In comparison to today's parts, they won't be cheaper.

Yeah and this is my point . At what point do they stop and think ? at what point do they look at the buyer ? how will the buyer be able to buy if the price is way to high?

but don't you guys know that every new CPU goes out, the old CPU will go down ??
I think the QuadCore Desktops will be no less than 400, and I think this will be acceptable...
but the point is...
I don't think AMD will release the Altair first ( Athlon 64 X4 ) they will release the Altair FX ( QuadFX ) first with prices up...
I just hope the cheapest Altair wont go more than $400 and this is a very good start... as if it's $400 then we will see QuadFX will go easly for $1500 for a pair !!

The Inquirer has some good sense of humor... quote:
Originally posted by: Unknown Don't expect many fireworks though, we are told the demo consists of a four socket, 16 core beast running, wait for it, task manager! We are told it scales flawlessly across the cores, probably the crowning achievement of HT in action.
This was an extremely boring teaser, we want Previews. Conroe was Previewed six months before being released and that caused that many people started to saving for it. Why AMD doesn't do the same with the K8L? Not only that, but why, one month before its release, we still got ZERO Engineering Samples from 65nm K8 Cores being benchmarked and overclocked? No fun here.

Speculations are good for as long that you keep your feet on the earth when you're doing so. That is a good example of an entirely out-of-range speculation. There is a great fanbase waiting to see the first numbers. If people doesn't see that it is worth waiting for, most enthusiast that are upgrading should migrate to Core 2 Duo instead of Socket M2.
