i hope i can explain this correctly. I continously get a "popup" that tells me I have a problem with my registry and it directs me to various sites.

The popup is brownish grey, and seems to appear randomly.

Also, every now and then my system kicks me off the internet for no reason.

So, i figured, i'd just buy a new hard drive and re install xp. when i did that, i still recieve the popup to go to different websites:

and some others...

I'm gonna take a wild guess and say i shouldn't download these programs, so how else do i get this popup to disappear

next time you get the popup try to write down the name of the software... perhaps see if it shows up in task manager???

once you get the name of the software check Add Remove programs and see if you "intentionally" installed it while installing some other piece of software (most likely freeware or whatnot - though not always.)

This is just the annoying windows messenger servs, you just have to disable it.

Control panel> classic view> Adminstrative tools>Services. find messenger Service and stop then disable it.
