has he tried to find the original owner yet?

$50 isn't bad for one, if it works.

I bought my 2 gig for $60 and Brasso(I think thats what its call) takes the scratches right out. I have seen some badly scratched up nanos and people just toss em away and get new ones. So I wouldn't surprised if someone did just throw it away because of the scratches.

Take it to the police, if they don't find the owner then they'll probably give you a call to pick it up from them.

I found a 1GB mini SD, did the same thing, now it's mine... have no use for it though.. it needs an adaptor.

Way I think of things is if someone is careless enough to drop something then they don't deserve to have it.

now now, i agree that reporting it lost is the correct thing to do, but how in the world is anyone going to find the correct owner? impossible. when it comes to this, my take on it is that who finds it, keeps it.

I like the attempt, but that is a bad example. If you are being careless with your...lets your wallet, you have only had it for 2 or 3 days. Well if you can't find it then you are careless, and if you are careless with stuff as important as your wallet then you SHOULD NOT be able to own a wallet. Just like Lenny from of mice and me. Now I'm not saying everyone is as dumb as Lenny, I'm saying that if you have an iPod in your pocket and you drop it, well you are not responsible and should own one.

And before anyone asks, yes if it is something that is mine I look at it the same way. I think its easier to look at it that way instead of looking around your house for 2 weeks trying to find it. It also encourages you to be more careful with things.

you can do it with winamp, but you don't HAVE to use itunes for music. Personally I think it is easier to do it with itunes. I also like to put album art and rename tons of things at once. I would use iTunes. I always turn it off when I'm not using it too. There is something called "iPodService.eve" it doesn't look like a resource hog, (less than 0% useage 3mb of ram) but when I turn it off I notice a big difference in responsiveness(is that a word?)

same here
it's a service, i just set as "Manual" in services.msc, s it starts with itunes, meaning only starts when i want to update my ipod. i never use itunes for anything else. it's bad music player, but a good "tool" for the ipod.
