I love my PC. I love PCs. But, I also love Amigas. I have not had one for a number of years now. The last one I had was an Amiga 1200 (originally 2Mb of RAM but i added an 8Mb extension card). I am desperate for an Amiga 1200 but not a Gateway at all - they came into the business and ruined everything. Commodore is the only way for Amiga IMO. Does anybody know who still sells them (not ebay) from the UK. It would be great if you could help...

thanks, 324

I also love Amigas. I have an A1200 with a hard disk and an '030 expansion card.

Here are some sites of interest:
www.amiga.org

www.amigakit.co.uk

BTW Amiga Inc are still mismanaging the modern amiga platform to this day (Amiga 1 PPC based system with AmigaOS 4 when it finally comes out, all very overpriced). So, the old Commodore tradition of mismanaging the amiga into the ground is still alive and well.

The Amiga 1000 I think has their signatures on the inside of the case.

ok, i really do not like getting amigas in parts. i was 10 when i last had one and thus i am not familar with the hardware needed.

preferrably i would like to acquire an amiga 1200 - whole and then add on extra stuff maybe.

it seems as though you can only buy parts.

thankyou anyway man for the finds!!!

I think it will probably have to be ebay then. If you can, try to get an A1200 with a Blizzard A1230 IV accelerator or better. That's what I have in mine for a 68030 50MHz processor. Get one with a hard disk if you can as well. You'll need ROM 3.1 to be able to use AmigaOS 3.1, 3.5 or 3.9. I use 3.0 with 3.0 ROM.

The AmigaOne is very similar to a PC except that it is based on a PowerPC processor and so also has a custom chipset. It has AGP and PCI slots. It has a custom firmware designed to just run AmigaOS4. It is NOT based on the classic amiga hardware so I personally don't concider it an amiga.

Also look out for another similar machine called the Pegasos II, which runs MorphOS.

BTW Be warned, The Amiga comunity is a very fractured thing these days. There are those that run classic amigas (like me), whose that have AmigaOnes and those that use Pegasos, flamewars can be quite common sometimes.
