While using ImgBurn to burn DVD's, It shows you what kind of DVD's they are. I have used this kind below, with NO coasters what so ever, even burning at 8x.

This is paired up with an NEC 3550A DVD Burner.

Physical Format Information (Last Recorded):
Book Type: DVD-R
Part Version: 5
Disc Size: 120mm
Maximum Read Rate: Not Specified

Linear Density: 0.267 um/bit
Track Density: 0.74 um/track
First Physical Sector of Data Area: 196,608
Last Physical Sector of Data Area: 2,495,103
Last Physical Sector in Layer 0: 0

dunno what manufacturer Maxell uses, but i have used Maxell DVD+R for the life of my BenQ DW1640... 0 problems, 0 coasters too. very very happy with both my burner and media.
unfortunately, it's known that BenQ burners prefer DVD+R media

Longfeng?? What the heck??

And I use TDK primarily, not because it's what I buy, just because my stepdad always seems to have some laying around when I need them. Haven't really had any problems..

I like anything available local and cheap. Only DVD+Rs though because I have had trouble with some DVD players reading the DVD-Rs. And I have a backup of all my DVDs thus I have burnt hundreds.
