If only they used an Athlon 64 FX-60, then it would be perfect. The Alienware one is much better and cheaper too.

Linky.

FX-60's arnt worth the money, sure its faster than the opteron at stock speeds but the opteron can crush it when overclocked.

Note 9930$, but there will probably be tax, shipping and extra warranty.

Also note this

Great prediction. Dell will learn once these don't sell like crazy because the few of us who are interested in Quad SLI will buy the Alienware systems until Alienware is bought out completely.

I doubt it. That monitor alone jacks the price up, as does the PPU card.

Are there any benchmarks floating around of how this system performs? it seems like running quad-sli would bottleneck even a highly overclocked cpu... and does quad sli run any game that runs just double sli or is it even supported at all? (that 30 inch fpw is tasty though.)

I think a dual Opteron dual core would maximize Quad SLI since today's games use 4 cores max.
And I'm pretty sure Quad SLI will work with any game that can use SLI, which are all the present games.

What the heck is wrong with you? FX's are the most rediculously priced CPU's out there. If it was an FX60 it'd probably be closer to 1100. If I had the money for this system would I throw it away just because it had a 965 in it instead of an FX60? Heck no, there's something wrong with you...

I didn't say it would be bad if it didn't have the FX, it just wouldn't be perfect. And of course having Alienware's water cooling would make it even better. Yes, the 965 does perform close to the FX, but not better than. Also, the FX is lower priced than the EE.

I'm not saying they perform on the same level, but come on man, a 4.2GHz PD isn't exactly a slouch.

Can you even get a board that will run quad sli yet? or is it just the preliminary board that dell came up with?

Where have you seen a Multithreaded game capable of taking advantage of four Cores? Because in months, I barely see games where you can actually get extra performance of a Dual Core (And mostly thanks to the improved Drivers and not because the game is Multithreaded).

Yeah, I know it performs very close to the FX. But if you want the absolute perfect system from Dell, you would prefer that they use AMD CPUs.

Quad SLI will run on any motherboard with 2 16x slots. I also believe it will run on lower clocked slots according to the Inquirer. And yes, games do utilize quad cores. X-Bit-Labs did a review on Dual Opterons Dual Cores utilizing games at the end of 2005 I believe.

He means that when you're paying that much then why not settle for the best and in this case the best would be cheaper.
