QUOTE(techPowerUp)For a long time, we've been nicknaming AMD's next major chip release K8L. In truth, AMD never really called their next generation CPU "K8L". The only time they ever nicknamed this new chip K8L was in imaginary roadmaps that were used a long, long time ago. The "L" in K8L actually stands for "low power", which has been used in the Turion 64 series for a year or two now. AMD has officially stated that their next generation of CPU's has the codename of K10. AMD also assures us that the K10 micro-architecture will be a very large step from what AMD currently offers in the K9 micro-architecture.- source

K9s were the dual cores, but AMD chose not to use that name as it might sound slow, people may have called the K9s Dogs, (thats what I heard at the time, no joke)

It gives the impression of aggression to me, which isn't bad at all.

Previous reports (dated 2004) quoted from AMD pointed out that AMD may move straight to the reported cancelled K10 Project to avoid confusion with dual core AMD K8. There is no further mentioning of any K9 product from anyone associated with AMD (as of October 2006).

Wow mayne, either I was trippin last night, or I was ridiculously tired, I dunno how I got that mixed up lol

Anyways, I like K10, equally as much as K9. I wasn't a big fan of K8L, it was too long

K8L or K9 or K10 doesn't matter. What's important is although it is 40% faster than Intel's current quad core processor, but will it be faster than Intel's upcoming native quad core processor?

We aren't even sure if it is 40% faster, its too early to tell from the benchmarks

Well FWIW Intel's native quad core isn't expected until a year after AMD's releases their native quad core, Intel is saying mid 2008 now, this page has some info on that.. Source

So who knows really, I've never really noticed AMD to just straight out lie about a CPUs performance, and I always get better benchmark scores then they do anyway.
