The Greatest price cut was with the X2 5400+ where the price was dropped from $485 to $267 or a whopping 55% decrease in price. Also it seems like there will now be a sub-$100 dual core available: the X2 3600+ has dropped from $138 to $102. Click here to see the complete processor pricing list effective February 12, 2007.

Whats with the 2 X2 3800+'s? Guessing either a typo or it's taking into account both the 65w and 85w version...either way can still get it about $4 cheaper off from zipzoomfly.com

I rather have them keep the $4 and put it towards a faster single core development.

Companies like AMD are quite good when it comes to pricing. AMD didn't lower their prices for the customers, they did it to maximize their profit. They know that with these prices they can stay more competitive with intel and convince some people to upgrade who normally would not. I love it when price drops like this happen: its a win-win situation for both the company and the buyers.

$4 does not impress me for a price break. That does not cover shipping overnight or two day.

There is no $4 decrease in price. There is a $3 one but thats on a single core processor (3500+) which is basically obsolete now adays. Are you saying that the price drop of the X2 5400+ does not impress you? Going from $485 to $267 is a pretty dam big decrease. Thats less than half of its former price.

This so good that I might move to AM2 with an X2 3600+ even if with stock performance it would be slower, I'd gain more on the overclock, though. I can taste that 3.1 GHz!

This is a repeat of the AXP days. Remember, the 3200+ dropped from a whopping $400-something to an amazing $220 or so. The 3000+ dropped from a $300-something to a $167 if I remember correctly. Wow! AMD outdid themselves this time though.

Yeah, its definitely looking like it did with Athlon XPs right before Athlon 64 came out. Of course this time Athlon 64 X2s are the Athlon XPs and Barcelona will be Athlon 64. Looks like AMD is trying to win over customer loyalty before Barcelona comes out so that their Barcelona sales will flourish and their upgrade path would be to Barcelona (which if I'm correct will be $300 for the cheapest for quite a while after its released).

I wish I had socket AM2....the dual cores are so cheap. 939 are still a bit more...makes no sense at all.

Hmm... I'd say you'd get between $200 and $250.

Dunno...This makes AMD look so much more tempting when I upgrade in a few months (Hopefully in two months.) I could get a good CPU for 200 bucks (217 to be exact! All the More reason, my friends, all the More money that stays in my pocket...(Or better yet that X2 5000+ for 222 bucks)

Random comment since I see the AXP...Why can't AMD still be making the AXP 3200+? Then I'd always buy AMD even if something else was cheaper.
