Yeah, that was pretty surprising that they did that. I was glad I didn't own an iPhone but felt for those who did and was angry for your sake!

I think what I need to do is send my Zune to the only repair place I can even find, which seems to fix 1st generation Zunes, and does not list any 2nd generation parts or services. MAYbe they can fix it, and if not then the ***** with Microsoft, I'm not buying a new one. I'm not supporting their business practice of cheating consumers out of their hard-earned money.

Update! I got ahold of Rapid Repair, the only place that fixes these things, and they don't have any parts for 2nd-gen Zunes available for purchase online so I emailed them. You know what the guy said?

The protective glass is not part of the LCD screen, you don't need to buy a new LCD. We don't currently have the glass in stock but it is not the same part, as the glass is actually connected to the front housing. Which is why I was going to attempt to remove the glass and replace it- it really didn't look like it was connected to the LCD, there's a few millimeters separating them. I don't know why three Microsoft phone people lied to me and said I'd need to acquire a whole new LCD, or why they wouldn't sell me one.

But this is one MS customer (who will only buy their OSes in the future) who's not going to get suckered into wasting more money on a part I don't even need!

I've heard a lot of predictions that MS may not make another operating system. Then again, there's rumors about Windows 7, so who knows.

The only things I do appreciate from MS are voice recognition (they match Apple at it), XP (not my fave but its their best yet), and DirectX (if only they had it for OSX!!!). The rest is pretty much garbage, imo.

Why is everyone trying to be like Creative in customer support? Shouldn't they take notes and learn not what to do and do the opposite? I agree though, HP tops my list of customer support. I remmeber calling there about my 6-in-1 media card reader causing a blue screen everytime I stick a card in. Anyways, we were diagnosing it through a chat session and my power went out. It's fine, I'm on my laptop but I lose internet connection. Anyways, like a minute later they called me to finish up the diagnosis, and then when power came back on, downlaoded the new BIOS and driver and been good ever since. You know, maybe we should update those companies we trust and companies we avoid threads we had going on in here?

Apple should be removed from the "Companies we won't buy from" list; at least they are a lot more trustworthy than MS was in this situation. The extra money pays off when it comes to customer service. Plus, 10.5 is working very nicely for me right now since I installed the 10.5.2 update

Apple and Microsoft are both the same in a sense. I wouldn't give in to the other one if one ticked me off.

And I do agree that HP CS is excellent, which is why HP is the computer I recommend the most and would buy if I didn't build my computers.
