My college son's old computer is a AMD Athalon 64 3000+ single core computer. I want to build him a moderately priced basic computer. I want to use a Athalon 64 X2 6000+ processor. I would like your recommendations for a decent motherboard.
If you have any other recommendations, I would appreciate it.

I am looking at 1066 mhz memory.

Thank you.

As far as the Motherboards go, im not to familiar with which is the best ones myself, but i do know that you dont need 1066mhz ram. Only Phenom Quad cores will run the ram at that speed. So as far as the ram goes go with 800Mhz.

i7 2600K - Asus Maximus Extreme-Z - G.Skill DDR3 2133 CL9 - MSI 5870 - Corsair 1200w PSU - 2 x Western Digital Raptors Raid 0 - Swiftech Apogee XT Water Block - Swiftech MCP655 Pump - 120mm Quad Rad - Windows 7 - Ubuntu x64

5311Mhz Validation

$44.00 board that supports phenom and DDR 2 1066 with HTT 3.0 and up to 9950 BE 125 watt. Sports a 0 % return rate and overclocks like mad. Performs like a $150.00 board .

Yes only phenom support DDR 2 1066 but don't go for DDR 2 800. Go for DDR 2 900 with 4 4 4 12 timings for overclock head room. OR buy the DDR 2 1066 for later on it will just default to DDR 2 800 and you will have some nice overclocking headroom.

dosent matter, the micro atx MB is smaller than a atx MB
you cant fit a atx in a micro atx case
but you can put a micro atx board in a atx case

I like the M2n Series from Asus. Only like $100 or so and you can get a nice SLI capable board.

I'm not into gaming, or anything that is taxing on a board. I just upgraded from my Biostar GeForce 6100 board(didn't recognize my 6000+). I went for the GIGABYTE GA-MA770-DS3, just need a video card (no on board video) I love it , you are able to use 1066, AM2+, and a few other things. http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16813128081 . I think you will be happy with it. I have been.
