Hey Folks,
I am looking for suggestions for a MOBO for an AMD Phenom II 940 Black Edition
I bought this CPU because it was cheap and also because I am looking to try my hand at Overclocking. I'm having a little trouble narrowing down a MOBO for it. So any help you folks could provide would be very appreciated. I'm willing to spend some money if it gets me the quality. Thanks in advance!!

I'd jump on the 940 deneb OC'ing thread and read the signature of the top posters for that thread.

Or consider the Asus M4A78-E its designed for Phenon II and at a $139 at NewEgg, that's considered mid-range.

Its not so much the board as it is the Chipset in regards to overclocking....

There is obviously a quality need for the motherboard, but my recommendation would be going for a 790FX or 790GX chipset.

This is not gospel, but it sure has been tested tried and true.

Its still up in the air whether or not the FX > GX or vice versa, but these both have been performing exceptionally well.

Lobster and Guru both have their's pumping crazy overclocks on their 940's with the 790GX chipset.

Moorhen and Kazgirl have theirs cranking up there as well on the 790FX

These are just a couple examples of some massive overclocks on the 940, and Ive been paying close attention.

I would however look at the M3A79-T Deluxe or its younger brother that uses if you are looking at Asus. This is just an outstanding performer, both of the afore mentioned 790FX users, have this board, as well as I.

For the money, that ASRock AOD and the Foxconn is an incredible value for performance with the 790GX Chip.

im currently using a ECS 790gx black series MOBO...and love it

at 109 its hard to beat, and ive gotten my 940 up to a stable 4.1, i usually dial it down to 3.8 for extended use etc...

i have a v10 cooler from coolermaster cooling it and even under load ive never hit above 53c, if running stock speeds i get about 23c

anyways good luck, asus hasnt really let me down

love my board for the 940.

Hell if I know what AM2+ DDR 2 board that will work flawless with the 955.

tried the MSI 790 FX and mine with no luck on the 955. But rocks the 940 very stable.
