Ok So in about 5-6 months I will be getting a new mobo etc. but until then to tide my over I would like to upgrade my 4000+ to something a bit beefier-
I have been told with my mobo (ECS MCP61PM-HM)- that the best I can do is a 3.1 GHz 89-watt Brisbane 6000+ -but the HP website states that nothing above 5600+ is supported. Is this true? Can I do better than 6000? Lastly I know I can't go above 89 watt cpu's-thx!

I have the ECS780G and its on supposed to support 95w cpus but I added extra cooling to the mosfets etc and I have my 9950 which is a 125w cpu and its running fine.

Do some research on your motherboard and see what cpu's they are running in that board.

Well in 5-6 months we may have far more options for the AM3 chipsets what with 785 chipset with HD4200 igp now announced

so if i were you i would just hang in there and grab P2X3 720BE or a quad once you moveout of that AM2 mobo
