I am pretty sure he will want to pay me or compensate me in some way.
I will humbly suggest the 955 as payment.

Indeed! Worth 20 minutes of labor and a couple hours of optimization..

No contest though Id take the AMD setup for sure. in my most non-biased opinion

In all reality that looks like a killer Intel setup though too.

Thats the M4A79-T Deluxe right?

From my reading around on it, the i7 965 isnt being purchased as much since the 920 and the mid range (forgot name) overclock so well.

its actually called a 940 and Intel is getting rid of the 940 and the 965 I am guessing they are not selling too well.

We have a couple of people at TRP that have the I7's, and from what i have seen in there scores and overclocks, They all overclock to the same point before becoming unstable. The i7's are nice systems because they are a quad core that runs as a Octacore, 4physcal cpu's 4 logical cpu's. But also keep in mind that i7's run extremely hot. When overclocking them they can get upwards of 100c on the cores.

They are dropping the 940 and 965 but they have replacements for them, different revisions. I believe its the 945 and the 975extreme

We have a thread over at TRP about it somewhere, ill see if i can find it and read up on it. I just read the other day the 975 is gonna be 3.33ghz, but im not sure if thats replacing the 965 or just and addition.

But I think if i was in your shoes i would build him the AMD system.
And ya cant say im AMD bias because i run Intel lol. well both.

so should I send back my 955 when it gets here and wait for the (965?) ? and pick up a used 940 or find a super deal for a new somewhere? Or better yet, have they released any projected timetable for the next one after the 955?

And yeah thats what I see everywhere. people buying the i7 920 and overclocking to the same stable clocks that the upper 2 can get to.

I keep open for both of them. I do like Intel, but i also do like AMD. The AMD is gonna run cooler and its still hanging in the game. There are some benchs that run faster on the AMD and some that run faster on the i7, but my biggest thing is the amount of heat that the i7 puts out.

Well heat would be an issue and he wants this to be a system he will use for a long time.

If it's a dream system.. shouldn't it be LN2 cooled or am I the only one that *dreams* about that sort of stuff? lol

Good luck! Builds like this are fun. I've done a couple and it's the only time I've had $1,000+ cpu in my hands. It's really neat to work with stuff you'll probably never be able to afford. Let us know how it all pans out.

Liquid Nitrogen is a dream machine for me as well lol. But unfortunely Liquid Nitrogen cooling doesnt work for a machine thats being used all the time, unless your willing to poor LN into it every few min. And you have an unlimited supply of it.
