What do you guys think:

AM3
AM2+ board
as much memory as possible DDR2

It is purely a games rig.

What recommendations do you have ?

Would you wait for the next gen boards? I mean after AM3

I my self would NOT wait. The DDR 2 setup is cheap as they come.

The power I have now I think will keep me quite happy for at least 2 to 3 years yet.

There is NO gain of any kind going to DDR 3 in terms of games and real world performance.

Ill tell ya the same thing I tell my clients.

Build to fill your needs and wants for the next 3 to 4 years. Year from now tech will have changed so much upgrades wont be a cost effective option lol.

So if I was to get a am3 cpu 940, 945, 955 as there only looks to be about £30 between all of them,

Could anyone recommend a good board? I only stuck another 400Hz to my current 939 4400 x2 so I am not going to clock the pins off it.

my board of choice

I use the 940 BE with it and run a full time 265x14 = 3.7 Ghz with 8 gig DDR 2 1066 @ 1056 overclock.

Amazing speed and power.

Don't think I would recommend a DDR 3 setup yet. Cost is far to high and there is utterly no benefit in doing so.

When you pick graphics

Give me your budget for GPU so I can recommend a good one for ya.

Memory what I use and just rocks I use 2 sets of them for 8 gig total.

Nice one! Is that water cooled? dont tell me that is on air only!

Are there any new boards to recommend?

I have a 285 I bought a couple of months ago which works a treat

all air cooled

285 GTX will be a great choice, I love mine.

DFI , ASUS , MSI , ASROCK all make very nice 790 GX FX based boards with 750 south bridge.

Check over them all and find what looks best to you.

NOT a fan of gigabyte , foxconn or any of the other cheaper brand boards
