Hey everyone, new to the forums, and I'm going to be building a new rig in the next week or so (as soon as the money comes). I'm going to be using a GIGABYTE GA-MA770-UD3 mobo, with 2 gigs of Corsair DDR2 1066 RAM, a 1TB WD Caviar Green, and a 575W Logisys PSU, all in a Broadway Com Corp ATX Mid tower case (one 250 mm fan on the side, I'll probably add a 120mm to the back). I was just wondering how high I can take the tri-core on air cooling with the stock cooler. I've seen rumors of 3.0 stable, but it seems like the stock cooler would be a little underpowered for that. Anyone have any recommendations as to how high I should go on stock cooling?

not really, i had an 8450 and i was barely tapping 2.5ghz. You might be able to get it higher with a 790gx chipset, ive seen guys hit 3.2ghz with 8450s. Remember though 790gx. Its not the cooler though, its your mobo.

The only way your going to find out is to try and see how far you can go. But I don't think your going to get anyware close to 3.0Ghz. More likly 2.5 and that would pushing it.
