Ok guys I am new here and want to build my PC up a little bit if possible. I have an asus M2A-VM mobo
processor is a Athlon 64 x2 dual core 4600+ 2.4ghz
asus EAH4650 Graphics card
memory is 4gb ddr2
750gb sata hard drive
NZXT M59 Gaming ATX Mid Tower Case
5 fans
dvd drive of course
running windows 7 ultimate
I don't know what specs or anything anyone needs to know to help me besides what's here. I know I can upgrade my CPU I think to a

AMD Athlon 64 X2 6400+ 3.2 GHz Processor
and memory i can go up to 8gb. But right now I'm sitting at 3.8 for the rating on my pc and it's for the graphics for windows aero.

according to Asus, you have quite a few cpu choices.

CPU support list for your motherboard

however, without knowing your budget, making specific recommendations is difficult.

however:

Phenom II X2 555 BE

Asus HD4870

Antec EA750 PSU

less than $300 shipped

Rig 1: AM2 X2 4850e--MSI K9N Neo V3--2x1gb Mushkin DDR2 800--Sapphire HD4830--Corsair VX450--Acer H213H-Win XP
Rig 2:Athlon X2 7850 Kuma--Biostar 780L--2x1gb Corsair XMS2 DDR2 800--Asus Formula HD4770--Corsair VX450--LG Flatron W2252TQ-Win 7 32-bit Premium

The 945 is a C3 but not BE: (HDX945WFK4DGM)
I would recommend this if you need a quad. The 555 is a BE dual core but it may or may not unlock the other two cores!

Ok this, C3? And 555 is a BE dual core? What is BE?

C3 is a later binning to C2. I have 2x C2s in my sig. C3s may overclock higher and use less voltage.
BE: Black Editions have unlocked multipliers that make overclocking specific parts easy versus a non-BE CPU.

BE stands for "Black Edition" which means that it leaves the factory with unlocked multipliers, which makes it easier to overclock

C3 is a core revision. some dual and tri-core cpu's are actually quad-cores that have 1 or 2 cores locked. This can be for a variety of reasons (price point, damaged core, etc), but on many occasions, these locked cores can be unlocked via software. You will see that some newer motherboards will have a "core unlocker" feature.

even though your motherboard can support some of the newer AM3 processors, it cannot support DDR3 and it cannot support the 125w TDP cpus.

I doubt the OP's motherboard has an unlock core/s feature.

the Phenom II X2 I linked to would be a pretty substantial upgrade, it's core clock speed is 500mhz faster than the cpu you have now, the 4870 has GDDR5 with a 256-bit interface and is much more capable than your current 4670.

the PSU I linked to is just a really good deal

The OP may not overclock? (HDX945WFK4DGM) may use DDR3. It may run DDR3-1600? DDR3-1333 is listed by AMD.

so what has to happen to add those parts, just drop them in and go! OR do I need to send this whole thing to one of you more tech savvy guys so you can do this thing?

This combo seems ok. Your GPU may want a little stronger CPU.

I recommend the 945 C3 if not overclocking. 4 cores for Video Editing.
