No reason not to post, we're glad you did, I'm tempted to run it on my laptop just to provide a rock bottom score

Thanks IL, and thanks also for doing this benchmark thread. You always do a great job at this.
Sorry, but I listed my old hard drive and edited my post to show the new Western Digital drive. Can you please change the scoreboard? Dang, I know I just created more work for you!

.... I just made the graphs XD
Ok, I'll include your results in the graphs, but not in the list until you get the list done.
It's apparent this thing doesn't take advantage of SLi

yeah this is really weird now.....
whats happening with the CD Mark scores...they're a bit all over the place and they must be having a bit of an affect on the overall scores, even if its a small one....!!
So far they are varying a heck of a lot...
ebear - 7.1
kazgirl - 69.8
Immortal Lobster - 279.8
Immortal Lobster 2 - 653.4
RBR - 5.4
Thats some really screwy figures for what should be fairly standard hardware....
I wonder if it depends on whether you have a CD or DVD in the drive..... if it reads CD faster than DVD for example...
I'll give it a try in a minute...!!
More I think about it it must have an affect as my dvd-rw drives read speeds are stated as being:
CD-ROM = x48
DVDROM = x16
When I was looking for a disc to put in the drive I just grabbed the frist one that was close it may well be a DVD-ROM...

I used the same CD in both PCs
[edit]btw to add to the wierdness, the DVD-Drive in my Opteron rig is just that, a DVD-drive. I salvaged it from an old compaq, manufacture date was 2001. lol
but yet, it's score is 3 times better than my new HP 640c in this PC.

Well if I'm right and its a dvd disc I put in, if I swap to a cd I should see a x3 improvement (approx.)
I'll give it a try later....in the middle of something else at the moment..!!
I know its not really that important and that I'd be better off improving the RAM, but its one of those odd littel things thats going to bug me.... lol..
PS. Loving the new graphs..... good job.... very nice colour schemes brings a bit of life to it...!!!!
Nice one..!!!
Out of curiosirty IL...is your DVD in the PC a SATA or IDE...
I ask as we both ahve the same chipset with the crappy SB600 so I can't even say that its related to the controller or anything... whats the max read speed for dvd-rom and cd-rom for your ODD...???
Just wondering if I put a CD in and get the x48 speed rather than the x16 speed, then my CD Marks should be about 209 or thereabouts which is a bit closer to the 279 of yours.... though still off a bit...

This is from the Passmark program help files.
To use this test you need to have a CD in the CD Drive. The CD should, if possible, have mostly large files on the disc. Having many small files on the disc will lower the result, as the time required to seek between files is included in the result.
My 5.4 CD Mark score was with using a music CD. I just tried a DVD movie disc, and got a CD Mark score of 554.5, so there is a huge difference.

yeash I just tried it with a DVD I have as a backup DVD.... lots of files on it.... I tried a music CD, which was really slow as well...
The DVD got a higher score but its lots of small files on it...I'll try it again now with a DVD-move disc to see if that makes a bigger differene again..
The CD Mark makes up 9% of the overall score, so a 400-500 point gain on the CD Ark will give an addittional 40-50 points on the overall score...
which tally's with what I saw....
My origianl score was 1028...
Now it's gone up to 1066 so pretty much bang on the 9% increase....
Yes and using a DVD with larger files 2GB or so.... gives a CD Mark increase of another 200 9% of which is approx 20 points to add to the overall score.....
and so:

Just throwing out a suggestion here....
Would it be worth considering scrapping the overall score, as its pretty meaningless really isn't.... its too easily manipulated.....
maybe just have the CPU, Memory, Disk and 3D Graphics scores and focus on the results from them.....
At least that would give an indicction of best individual components kind of thing...
Maybe we could have a virtual best PC using the leading component for each of those as parts for the virtual PC.... lol...
OMG..!!!.... I am now officially a Geek...!!!

Mine won't read movie DVDs, I tried 3 different ones, always get an error that it can't read the file.
<shrug>
Scrap the CD test all together, I'll continue with the overall score, but people should be aware that a CD score can easily invalidate it.
