After 5 years my ASUS board has died. I would be grateful for recommendations on a new board perferably Gigabyte.

Thanks

Not many socket A motherboards to be found nowadays, as new. Second hand market yet have them. Definetly a nvidia nforce2 chipset based board is best for socket A.

The N°1 motherboard for that processor, with an Nforce 2, is Asus's A7N8X Deluxe. It's the one I previously had and it's very good.

If the xp2400 is five years old it probably has an unlocked multiplier which would allow you to run at for example 11x200 (2.2GHz) on an Nforce2 ultra400 board if you had some decent pc3200 ddr memory. But you'd probably be better off selling the parts that still work and going for a new multicore platform.
