I want to buy the Phenom 9950 BE, but I need some help. The PC is going to be for gaming/video and I'm going to overclock the CPU. I was thinking of getting either the MSI K9A2 Platinum, Asus M3A32-MVP Deluxe, or the MSI K9N2 Diamond. Also, what PSU would you recommend?

1. 125w or 145w version?

2. What will be a good motherboard and PSU?

Thanks.

You really want a motherboard with the SB750 southbridge. Also the 790FX or 790GX northbridge.

There aren't that many mobo's around right now with 790FX and SB750 so I'd suggest one with 790GX. It has a built in Radeon 3300 but that can always be disabled if you don't want it, or run it in hybrid crossfire if you have an ATI gfx card

I can't recommend a specific motherboard, just look for those chipsets.

When it comes to which is better, the 125 or 140W version, I can't really say.

What kind of PSU you want is difficult, it all depends on what other things you plan to put in there. If you want two gfx cards for example you're gonna need a very good one with the correct connectors. One thing you should look for though, make sure that the 12v rails are at least 30A. Just to be safe I'd say don't get any PSU under 600W but the amps are more important than wattage.

TechCy86,welcome to the forum.
i am also getting the 9950, (i am going with the 125 watt, it is only $11 more)
so i have been doing research on motherboards.
here are a few that i am going to choose from

Asus

DFI

Gigabyte

DFI Jr

these are crossfire boards
they all have sb750
the first 2 are 790fx
the last 2 are 790gx/with onboard grfx
i am leaning towards the ASUS or the DFI Jr
asus being the first choice.
i do expect some input on these boards from the members here.
so maybe it will help us both out.

i agree with Liqourice,we need some more info on what you plan on putting in your system, video card, hard drives.....
if you let us know we can help out with the PSU.

well according to this

">"><br ">&l.......bSi...=69&LanID=0

<br [/L]

it doesnt support the 9950 but it sure does support the newer phenom's

might I suggest go for the 940 instead of the 9950, the 940 is a pure bred overclocker and a very good performer or for the 945 (budget wise of course)

oh and dont forget to update to the most recent bios before doing so

theoretically its even supported on my 570sli mobo, but its up to the mobo manufacturer whether they should add the support for the 9950 in their am2/am2+ mobos
