So, I cannot seem to find any website selling this SSD! Apparently the price is around $1000 - but maybe its worth it?

what are you using your system for?
what components do you have/plan to buy?
motherboard?
CPU?
video card, etc....

IMHO,$1000 is a lot of money for storage.
if you want a SSD, find one smaller-150-250gig,and cheaper.
and use that for your OS,Games.....
then spent the rest for Storage drives.
you can get good 1TB drives for under $150

your money,if you have it spend it.
but dont stretch to far out of budget for it.
the price for SSD is going down, might be cheaper in 3-6 months

Thanks for the advice! Anyway its more for a Gaming PC.
Here's what I'm aiming for:

AMD 'Deneb' Processor
ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2
4GB DDR3 Memory
Blu-Ray ROM
Blu-Ray Writer w/Lightscribe
Win Vista(64-Bit) or Win 7 Beta(64-Bit) (when it comes out)
I also wanted an SSD for it amazing speed =] (Also no mechanical failures)?
Also some other stuff like sound card etc;

ddr3/AM3-MBs (denebs) wont be out for a while.
check the prices on the SSD then, might have a drop in price
looks like you have some deep pockets, i say buy it when the rest of your components come out.
i would like to see it when you are done (well not really see it, see it, but see it-ya know?!?!?!)

by the way, i have had not one problem with the 15+ hard drives that i have used.

Not really deep pockets, I'd say things are quite cheap here in Cyprus/Europe!
Especially since the Economic crisis! I'm not saying it's a good thing...
But boy have things become cheaper--especially since GBP is at it weakest against the EUR.

I also don't like how some are limited to somewhere in the neighborhood of 100,000 write cycles, pretty sure an OS can do that in a few hours, if not minutes.


I'm not making the switch anytime soon.

on a side, the one huge downside to DRAM based, or even SRAM, is that when it loses power, all data is lost. great if you just want speed, but if you need to preserve your data, and need to be sure that the data will always be on that little iron disk, it's no good. Oh, oops...the battery died, well there goes my life!


However, you are right, DRAm/SRAM based are not limited to write cycles, as they're nothing more than several sticks of ram shoved in a box with a controller.

as long as the backup CR-2032 battery has power, yes. once it's dead though....poof!

ever had your cmos battery go dead? does so without warning, you reboot, and suddenly all your overclock settings are stock, and your raid array is broken, and you sit there scratching your head askinging yourself, w-t-f? I have, and I'm not gonna risk my data to the lifespan of a watch battery.
