Hi!

So im building a new computer from scratch.
As the title already tells you, I have no freaking idea which PSU, RAM and CPU cooler to choose.

By the way I don't want to do CFX or OC. The CPU cooler shouldn't be too big as I'd like to upgrade my memory with another 2x2GB memory some day and there has to be enough space for four memory sticks.

I already own:

- 250GB Samsung HD, 7200rpm, 2504c
- DVDCD/RW drive

Here's a list of my current set-up I'm planning to buy:

- CPU: Phenom II 965 (140TDP, maybe 125TDP if it's available in my town)
- GPU: HIS HD 5850
- Mainboard: Gigabyte MA790XT-UD4P

- RAM: No idea yet. Should cost around $120 and be 2 x 2GB, atleast 1333MHZ and of course be compatible with my set-up
- PSU: No idea yet. Should cost around $100
- CPU Cooler: No idea yet, too. Should cost between $30-50

On a side note: I did a power supply calculation here on http://www.be-quiet.net/calculator.php and it told me that I need a 500W PSU. Then later on I did another power supply calculation on a another site and it told me that I need a 600W PSU.

Thanks in advance for your help!

assuming you're in the United States and your budget is in US dollars, I will give you some PSU recommendations.

Antec Earthwatts EA650

Enermax Eco80+ 500w

Thermaltake Toughpower 650w Modular

If your not going to be OC'ing than the stock heatsink/fan will do fine as long as you have good airflow though your case. So you could save your self a few doller's there. And if you can get your hands on the 125w 965 that would be better (runs cooler)

With that 5850 card I would't go with any thing smaller than a 550w psu. In fact that Corsair 650TX would be a real good pick.

And remember.
Never get cheap with the psu!! You'll regret it down the road

-------------------------
PII 1100T (Extinct)
Asus M4A78T-E (should be Extinct)
4Gb of Corsair XMS3 1600Mhz DDR3 (Going strong)
2x1GB 5850's (On their last lags)
Corsair HX850W (Awsome)
NZXT Phantom case (too ***** big)

Ok, so here's a little update:

I bought AMD phenom II 965 (C3, 125 TDP)
Gigabyte 790FX
Patriot Memory DDR3 1333MHz 4GB (CL7)
Thermaltake Toughpower XT 650W
and a HIS 5850 (which I am still waiting for since a few weeks :X)

I'll also be getting the new Lancool PC-K62 tower and put red fans and red leds into it.

Basically I'm now waiting for an AM3 motherboard with USB 3, PCI-E 3 and SATA 6 Gbit/s support, so I could finally upgrade my HDD.

PS: Does anyone know when an AM3 motherboard comes out with new SATA, USB and PCI-E support?

I don't think PCI-E 3.0, USB 3.0, or even SATA III is out yet, anyone know for sure?

Yeap, Gigabyte has already rolled out a few "3" boards.
