1. There are games like GTAIV and Dragons Age Origins that bully any/all dual cores so i'd hit an AthlonII X3 as an entry level gaming chip minimum hehe
Data which includes a 'top class' E8xxx dual core IMO it makes perfect sense to have playable frames for *any* game when i fork out for a gaming rig - non multi core and multi core optimised hehe Even Left for Dead 2 performs better with > 2 cores
2. Planet's fastest GPU : cpu scaling with i7/PhenomII
For the most part PhenomII architecture picks up after 2.6-2.8 ghz in most games
3. The best hardware for gaming is still the GPU with the most teeth for your desired gaming resolution/settings and of course budget
