I have some discretionary item for software items, but this is for the main machine. This is the current deal via newegg.com and it is over $1000.

Any ideas for tweaking this budget gaming system?

well, you can save money by buying a cheaper case and PSU. The selection you've made is great, don't get me wrong, but how about something like this:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16817151095 Seasonic M12II 620w

http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16811112245 Lian Li PC-8N case

also consider:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16835181011 Corsair CAFA70 CPU HSF

you can also save upwards of $50 by moving down from an HD6870 to an HD6850 or GTX460

8 gigs of RAM is probably overkill as well

Considering the awesome CF scaling of HD6k i would rather hit an Asrock CFable 870/880G/890GX
