M7VIG 400 (7.x)' ">http://www.biostar.com.tw/prod...me=M7VIG%20400%20(7.x)
Right now I have a Sempron 2200+ socket A and the board listed above. The board came with software that allows me to easily adjust the clock speed while in Windows. So far, I have been able to speed it up to 1.8 Ghz (from 1.5 stock). I forget the term for it (I think it is clock speed), but I increased the 166 number to 200.
If i change the 200 to 198, my computer just reboots. When I do this I have noticed something. While every time I increase this number, it increases the speed of the processor, RAM, PCI, and videocard and maybe more. When I hit 200, however, my PCI and videocard speed goes back down to the original clock speed.
I am not really worried about increasing the video card speed on it. All I really do on this computer is encode and watch video. I would like to increase the speed of my processor even more than I have now, but I know that if I do more then I would probably have to increase it to 2.1 Ghz because I figure that would be the point where the PCI and videocard speeds get reset back to their stock speeds again.
While running at 1.8 Ghz, my cpu temperature is hovering around 45 - 47 degrees. Am I going to hurt something if I quickly increase my cpu speed that much? It seems to be staying pretty cool since I put a 120mm fan an inch or two from it.
One more quick question: How much of a difference would it make if i had 3200 ram instead of 2700 for encoding video? And how much of a difference in everyday use? (184 pin)
