Frys Electronics for the past few weeks has revived the deals they used to have with Duron CPU + Mobo combos, but the newest offerings are Sempron-based with 2500+ to 3000+ processors.

The side by side comparison in the link that follows shows all the 2800+ models have 256 L2 Cache, so do they have an edge over the 3000+ with 128 L2?

So, which one should I go with and what are the pros and cons?

The K8 architecture is not very cache dependent, so it is ok even if the model is rated higher than the one that has more cache. However, I would still pick the Sempron 2800+ because the extra cache can help and you'll be able to overclock it 200 MHz easily to the level of a 3000+, however, I do not guarantee this, but it is a possibility.

why not just go athlon xp... same thing more cache??? i guess if u get a 754... id choose the 2800, good for everclocking

the athlon xp is consistently beaten by the Socket 754 Semprons
