Recently I had to send back My 6600GT and have yet to replace it. Right now Im using an antique PCI card which is obviously not going to cut it. I am running the DFI LanParty NF4 SLI-DR, the rest of the specs you should be able to see in my sig. I do not really care if its ATI or Nvidia because the way computer technology is I dont know if I will ever make it to SLi.
I have the money to get either a 7800GT or 7800GTX but I dont know if I really need one of those; I basically want the best card for the money that works with my system. I can only run my monitor at 1280X1024 which is average for most. I would like to upgrade to maybe a larger monitor here in the near future; possibly a larger monitor that supports higher resolutions which would in turn take more advantage of the better cards. I am also not a heavy gamer. I would like to start playing games more, but for now I pretty much just watch movies or tv on my monitor along with normal daily things plus some rendering. I like the price tag of the 6600GT but I have a feeling those will soon be phased out and if I can get a lot more performance from a card that costs a little more, I would rather get the better card.
I dont know much about ATI's cards but for Nvidia; these should be the current prices. 6600GT $160-200; 6800GT $300; 7800GT $400; 7800GTX $500. These prices may vary slightly but I can get either BFG or XFX around these prices which I think would be the best brands for the Nvidia cards, but I could be wrong.
Please let me know what you think the best way to go is; I would even consider ATI if the performance is better and the price is right. I would run SLi, but by the time I can afford another card they will have new cards out already anyways.
