I don't do that much gaming, but I need to get out of this P4. I run Fedora Core 3, which if I get Opteron will turn into FC x86-64. I'm mostly into playing around with Maya. My most economic option is to go with an Opteron and eventually upgrade to Opteron Dual Core.

I'm selling my Abit AA8-Duramax, Pentium 4 520, and 2x256 DDR2-533 Corsair to pay for most of this.

I'm going to change my case later on, but I won't need to right now even though it is a crappy case. Atleast, not right now unless I decide that I need to.

The stuff:
Foxconn NF4PIK8AA-8EKRS nForce Pro 2200 $225
AMD Opteron 140 $140-160 (eBay, gonna OC a little,retail)

If I were to get a case I would get this one: Rosewill TU-155 w/ 400W PSU for $53.

I already have everything else. I posted earlier that I had 4GB or so of PC1600/2100 registered RAM. I will use that, of course the PC2100, and change when I get some PC2700 registered.

What do you guys think?

I don't know much about Opteron systems, but I'm always wary of buying electronics on Ebay. We've seen numerous threads of altered processors that came from ebay, and other such unfortunate things.

Just a reminder to be careful when shopping on ebay for electronics.

Well then I'll shell out the extra bucks and get a Opteron 142 instead off of Newegg. How does everything sound?

Motherboard As Above

Would it be worth it to go Opteron 142? I wanna get one of those dual core ones later in the future.
