Hi, after playing F.E.A.R. and Call of Duty 2 I have "discovered" that my rig is "too old" to play today's top games. So I have decided that an upgrade is in order, now, I only have a limited budget and I am based in the UK so prices are higher over here in comparison to the states.

I have found a PCI-E and AGP motherboard (I recall Technic having it), it is of course the ASRock S939 Athlon ULi m1695 ATX A L' ">http://www.dabs.com/productview.aspx?Quicklinx=3SYF - I have found it on Dabs.com for £48.11 inc VAT, if you can find it cheaper within the UK please let me know /smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' />

As for a processor I was going to get an Opteron 144, but alas it would appear they have all gone (if you know of a place which does still sell/stock them and it is cheap, please let me know). So with that in mind I'm either going to get a 3200+ or 3500+, the 3200+ is £104.99 inc VAT, and the 3500+ is £138.06 inc VAT. If you know of a place which sells them cheaper, please let me know /smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' />

I'm going to re-use most of my current system, not only because it'll save me money - but they are still fairly decent performing components so replacements would be unneccessary. I'm sticking with my 9800 Pro for the time being (hence the AGP/PCI-E mobo) and am leaning towards the 6800 GS as a future upgrade.

Thanks for your help. /smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' />

that's a great upgrade path if you ask me. yes, technic has that mobo, and don't get him started on that want cause he'll ramble on how much he likes it /laugh.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='laugh.gif' />
seriously tho, pretty much everyone that has that mobo likes it a lot, BUT the voltage options for OC. vdimm is very limited (some say it tops out at 2.7V, others at 2.8V... who knows) and vcore, i think, was removed in a recent BIOS update. it still does OC fairly well.
now, peroforming wise, it performs on par even the nforce4 mobos, so that shouldn't be a concern.
i would prolly take the 3500 over the 3200 if you can't find an opteron. faster at stock, easy to OC cause of the 11x multi.
BTW, i'm still on my beloved 9800PRO, and seriously, i still haven't felt the urge to upgrade. it still performs flawlessly paired with this A64 rig /biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' />

That's great to know - obviously my current processor is the bottleneck in my current rig. /smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' />
