Ok, Im new here so be gentle........ I'm building my first AMD based system & can't truly decide on the CPU. I've already got the MoBO picked out (Asus A8n-SLi Deluxe), but now the decision is between the fx-55 or either the 3800+/4000+. Just wondering if there would be a MAJOR difference between using the 55 vs the 4000 ??....Is it possible to OC the 4000 to get close to the 55 ??.... Here's the basic setup sp far:

Mobo: Asus A8n-SLi Deluxe
CPU: ??? (55 or 3800/4000)
VGA: eVGA 6800GT (probably 2 of them in SLI mode)
PSU: PC Power & Cooling 510SLi
Memory: Crucial Ballistix Tracer 1gb or Corsair XMS Xpert 2x512

and all the other add-ons.... just trying to figure out which CPU to use........

All the 4000+ is an FX-53 in disguise. Between the 3800+ and 4000+, the l2 cache doesnt make that much of a difference. But if you the got the money to burn wait for the 65nm FX-57. And for cards, i would suggest the BFG 6800GT OC for cards. For the psu i would get either an OCZ 520 or the Tagan 480w.
For 939 your going to want two sticks, so the ram is fin.

Looks good. I wish I had extra money to burn to go with a better video card and better cpu. I am pleased with the performance of my rig though, as you will be with yours.

how is the asus board f34r?
i am looking for a new mobo, as i am also building a new pc. i built this one a year ago, and now i am gonna get an athlon64 based system.
there are 2 boards i have been looking at, the asus a8n sli deluxe and the msi neo4 platinum sli.
both cost about the same and i cant see them being too different from each other. i too am getting the msi 6600gt graphics, 2 of them to run in sli. how does that perform?

cheers

Well looks like somebody has money to burn...

What will you be using this system for first of all?

The 4000+ is an FX 53 with a locked multi. And yes, it will be highly possible to get the 4000+ way beyond STOCK FX55 speeds, but you also have to consider the OCing power of the FX55, as it can easily reach 3GHz with the right RAM and cooling.

There's no point in SLI, so get a single x850xt for 500 bucks, as SLI is useless, and it will stay that way for a few years, or maybe forever.
