i am looking to get a 6600 with gddr 3. i am getting a socket 754 mobo does the gpu memory type have anything to do with the mobo or anything like that.

no but gddr3 is quite faster and it's only for gpu's

No.

That memory is strictly for the graphics card, and has nothing to do with the motherboard. GDDR3 is just the newer type of memory used only for graphic cards - quite fast from what I've seen.

I just got my 6600GT today, installed about 30 minutes ago. Simply amazing differance from the FX5200 I had in there. I can't wait to try out some real games now. I didn't buy any before because that 5200 sucked. Aquamark 3 would barely even run with the old card and it took forever. This new one flew through it.

the memory type on graphics cards has absolutely nothing to do with the mobo compatibility.

I video card is basically like a mini computer. It has processor, ram on a little mini motherboard. LOL
