just one internal HDD that stores everything, system and documents...

or have a WD Raptor for system files and get an external HDD for the documents...

which way would be the best way?

if the external shindig then which external drive should i be lookin at?

This is something I want to know about too, actually. I am considering using an external drive in an enclosure, I just don't have a clue about this...

How are they powered? By a separate power supply?
Do I need a SATA to USB converter or something?

Um... Why can't you get a second internal hard drive?

Personally, if I could get two hard drives, I'd get two equal non-Raptor ones and put them in a RAID 1.

Reason I don't want 2 internal drives is mainly because I need portable storage for my audio. Occasionally I put music I'm working on onto DVD's and take them to a friend's house to work on (this is my own music which is often many GB's in size due to the format, .wav). Another reason is less heat inside the case. I'll eventually have a number of hard discs with all my data on, rather than hundreds of CD's or a big pile of DVD's. HDD's that are easy to pull off a shelf and plug in when I need them would be way better.

I'm sure Ravanger has his reasons too.

Thats not too bad for the price. And Ninja they use their own power via outlet.
