Hi,

I'm looking for recommendations on a dual CPU mobo for the following applications:

a) (Primarily a) Storage server - Running either Centos 6 or OpenFiler
Primarily NFS, Samba and iSCSI

b) A few virtual machines

Hopefully I can use the same motherboard, pin the IO stuff to one CPU, and the virtualization to the other.

I am not planning on running many VM's on that CPU, but just a few crucial ones that would benefit from fast IO (Database) and administration.

My plan is to get the mobo, and one C32 CPU (probably a 4180), and test it out, then swap in two Bulldozer CPU's when they become available.

I already have a big rackmount 4U 16 drive case, that will fit EATX and EEB mobo's.

Features I'd like to have:
IPMI, dual GB, and a number of PCIe slots(one or two of which will have a LSi 9261-8i in it), and might add an iSCSI specific server NIC.

I am looking at the ASUS KCMA-D8, and Tyan S8225A and Tyan S8226.

Anyone have any recommendations or options?

Any references to Bulldozer compatibility?

Are you aware of Supermicro's H8DCL-iF?

Most should work with Bulldozer-based Opteron 4200s, since AMD explicitly designed Socket C32 (and its counterpart Socket G34) to specifically work with Bulldozer-based parts. Any of those should be fine. TYAN's dual-chipset board obviously has the most I/O capabilities, but I'd definitely give ASUS the leg over TYAN in reliability and support if something goes wrong. Supermicro would be #1 for customer support, likelihood of new CPU support, and reliability. They also make their boards in the USA instead of Taiwan or China, too.

What makes you believe that? The H8DCL-(i|6)[F] which we're talking about is definitely made in Taiwan.
